Every Garden Begins with a Seed

“Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much…” — Luke 16:10

Walk through any flourishing garden and you’ll notice the beauty of what has grown. Flowers bloom, fruit ripens, and trees offer shade. Yet none of those things began that way.

Every garden begins with a seed.

A life rooted in Christ grows much the same way.

We often notice the moments that seem extraordinary. David standing before Goliath. Mountains moved by faith. Lives transformed by God’s grace. But long before those moments, God was already at work.

Before David was a king, he was a shepherd.

Before he stood before Goliath, he faithfully cared for the sheep God had entrusted to him. Those quiet days weren’t separate from God’s plan—they were preparing him for it.

Jesus used the mustard seed as a metaphor to reveal how God delights in bringing life from what seems insignificant. What begins small in our hands is never small in His.

Perhaps that’s why Jesus also taught that those who are faithful with little can be trusted with much.

True stewardship doesn’t begin when we have more time, more influence, or more resources.

It begins today.

It begins by opening God’s Word.

By choosing faithfulness in the ordinary.

By trusting that God is at work, even when growth is still beneath the surface.

Every garden begins with a seed.

Perhaps today, God is inviting you to faithfully tend the one He’s already placed in your hands.

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for reminding me that every garden begins with a seed. Help me not to overlook the small things You have entrusted to me today. As I spend time in Your Word, continue to shape my heart, strengthen my faith, and teach me to faithfully walk with You, one step at a time.

Amen.
